CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A winter storm warning will be in effect until 3pm this afternoon in the San Bernardino County mountains, with 1 to 3 feet above 6,000 feet and 3 to 4 feet of snow expected on higher peaks.
Since the storm moved in, I brought several inches of rain on Friday, creating dangerous conditions on the roads and flooding streets throughout the Inland Empire and the high desert.
When the snow started to fall around 5am in the Cajon Pass Caltrans and California Highway Patrol were keeping people safe on the road.
One Pain In The Pass member said only one to two lanes are open going southbound and three going northbound on Interstate 15. It took her over 3 hours to go from Bear Valley Rd to Highway 138 on southbound I-15.
Know before you go and check the Pain In The Pass Facebook Group for up to date traffic conditions on the 15 freeway. Plan ahead and add extra time before you travel.
Please get prepared now if you travel the Cajon Pass Interstate 15. Make sure you have a full tank of gas if you become stranded on the freeway. Friday night into Saturday will be the coldest part of the storm. Remember to SLOW DOWN in the rain or in the snow. Remember you can not see black ice on the roadway.
CHP and Caltrans will try to keep the Cajon Pass lanes free of snow and ice, but if the weather turns bad under 32° they will close the freeway down.
