The first collision happened at about 11:52pm Wednesday May 3, 2023. The location of the crash was on northbound Interstate 15 just before the University Parkway exit. California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the crash involving a dark gray Chevrolet Equinox Subcompact SUV with major damage blocking the middle lane, an unknown hit-and-run vehicle, and a blue semi tractor trailer.

For reasons still under investigation, the Chevy SUV was hit and lost control, crashed and came to a rest blocking the middle lane. While dispatchers were talking with the female inside the Chevy, she stopped answering questions. The dispatcher stated they heard a loud crash while trying to get information from the lady. The other vehicle from the crash didn’t stop and CHP doesn’t have a description for the vehicle that drove off from the scene.

The blue semi was traveling at freeway speeds and couldn’t see the Chevy that was disabled in the middle lane when it was hit by the semi. The Chevy was pushed and came to rest in the right shoulder of the freeway.

Rescue workers found the female driver unconscious and not breathing inside the Chevy. They rendered aid to the lady, but sadly she succumbed to her injuries sustained in the collision.

The semi-truck driver stayed at the scene and was extremely distraught after the collision. No other information was provided at the scene.

The drivers identity has not been released publicly at this time.

We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office.
