CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A brush fire caused by a semi tractor trailer that went down the embankment at the top of the Cajon Pass Monday afternoon. (Photo above is credit by Abner Reyes.)

California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino County Fire Department, and San Bernardino National Forest firefighters were on scene of a semi over the side on fire. The semi was located on northbound Interstate 15 near the Oak Hill Road exit about 60 feet down the embankment. The semi crash/fire happened on Monday about 2:43pm August 28, 2023. California Highway Patrol and firefighters were on the scene and had to temporarily shut down the slow lane and the # 3 lane while they worked on getting the semi and vegetation put out.

The cab of a semi was fully engulfed with flame, the trailer was intact with no fire damage. The fire burned about one acre of vegetation.

The driver escape the semi before it became fully engulfed. No injuries were reported at the scene. 

Traffic was jammed at the top of the Cajon Pass this afternoon.

This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office.
