WRIGHTWOOD, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A brush fire that broke out near the Guffy and Lupine Campgrounds, southwest of the town of Wrightwood Friday afternoon, officials said. It was ultimately kept at about 2 acres with no structures damaged. (Photo above is credit by Jenny Bagz)
The blaze, called the Lupine Fire, was reported shortly after 4pm on September 8, 2023, near NF-3N06 Road. Its name was derived from the Lupine Campground, a small campground near one of the two spot fires.
The fire was entirely within Los Angeles County, but inside a mutual threat zone near the San Bernardino County line. That meant not only LA County Fire Department crews responded, but also personnel from San Bernardino County Fire Departments, CAL FIRE, along with the Angeles National Forest Firefighters were on scene.
The response included two air tankers as well as two helicopters help quickly contain the two fires.
The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. There was a report of a female in black dress walking out Fire Service Rd 3N39 from Lupine Campground towards Guffy Campground. She was uncooperative and hindering fire operations, fire personal was reporting. No new info on law enforcement if she was arrested.
Smoke was visible from the town of Wrightwood and the Antelope Valley Friday afternoon.
