According to California Highway Patrol Traffic Log, an unknown black sedan pulled to the right shoulder of the freeway with flames coming out of the rear end. The car fire was reportedly happened on the northbound I-15 about a half mile before Afton Road about 8:15pm January 28, 2024. The vehicle caught fire was reported to be a gray Mazda CX-5 SUV and quickly became engulfed.

CHP and Caltrans had to temporally shut down the southbound side due to smoke across the traffic lanes. Traffic coming from Las Vegas area was backup about a mile long.

Everybody inside the vehicle was able to exit the vehicle and walked away uninjured.
