SAN BERNARDINO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi-trailer caught fire on southbound Interstate 15 in north San Bernardino Wednesday morning, partially shutting down the lanes and caused a major traffic delay for morning commuters. (Photo above is credit by George Alanini)
The fire happened on the southbound lanes of I-15 near the Glen Helen Parkway Exit, about 5:47am. California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino County Fire Department, and with help by CAL Fire had to shut down all southbound lanes to fight the fire in the trailer.
The driver was able to detach the tractor from the trailer to save the tractor cab from catching fire. The semi was carrying an unknown food product in cardboard boxes that was not listed on the traffic log.
The fire kept reigniting so the fire crews had to open up the trailer and the content spilled out onto the freeway and that issued a major Sig-Alert for three lanes.
It looks like a problem with one of the rear trailer brakes that caused the problem.
No injuries were reported.
All lanes were reopened by 3pm after the major cleanup.
