Record-Breaking Travel for the Two Week Holidays

CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> In Southern California, 9.9 million people will be traveling during Christmas-time and 8.7 million of those travelers will be on the road for the two weeks according to Gianella Ghiglino, with AAA of Southern California. They also said about 90% of holiday travelers will drive to their destinations. You can check the Pain In The Pass Facebook Group before you go for up-to-date traffic conditions.

NO ROADWORK Friday morning December 20 – Thursday morning Janaury 2 from the 10 freeway up to Stateline on Interstate 15 this Christmas/New Year week. Roadwork with lane closures starts Thursday night Jan 2.

Traffic Tips:

Expect delays on Thursday and Friday afternoon/evening for northbound I-15 traffic. Friday will be the heaviest day with school last day. Monday and Tuesday afternoon/night will be crowded. Wednesday is Christmas Day could have traffic at night.

Expect delays on Friday December 27, on northbound and southbound I-15 for the New Year.

Expect delays on Wednesday January 1 and Thursday Jan. 2. Saturday and Sunday Jan 4 and the 5 will be crowed with everybody coming home.

Traffic hot spots will be the Cajon Pass, Devore, Hesperia, Victorville, Barstow, Baker and in Stateline. Try to travel during off peak hours (early morning or late at night). The worst time to travel is around 2pm to 8pm on Friday each week.

If you plan to hit the road this Christmas/New Years Weekends here are some helpful tips below:

• Travel in early morning hours if possible – try to leave before noon each day.

• BRING WATER! Also bring snacks and necessary medication.

• Have a full tank of gas before you go.

• Make sure your car is in good running condition. Check all the fluids, tires and the tire pressure.

• Bring a charged cell phone (with a car charger).

• Use the restroom before you get on the road – you don’t know where you may get stopped for long periods of time.

• Bring your patience, Please. Don’t need road rage this Holiday weekend.

• Know before you go and check the Pain In The Pass Facebook Group for up to date traffic conditions on the 15 freeway. Plan ahead and add extra time before you travel. Have a positive attitude — relax and enjoy the ride!
