CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A brush fire erupted in the Cajon Pass off of Interstate 15 Saturday afternoon.
The fire started off of Baldy Mesa Road next to the train tracks on the east side of the 15 freeway at about 12:15pm August 9, 2025 between the 15 Freeway and Highway 138. Dubbed the “Mariposa Fire,” the blaze climbed a brush-covered hillside and produced flames that you can see from the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fire was burning at the top and the side of the mountain with a moderate rate of spread.
No structures were threatened at this time
At this time all lanes remained opened at this time, with the flames slowly coming down the mountains.
Update at 1:45pm forward rate of spread was stopped at 30 acres.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
