CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Car fire lights up the night sky on the first day of January in the Cajon Pass on Interstate 15 Thursday night.
The car fire was reported about 7:09pm on Thursday January 1, 2026, with the California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire were on scene to extinguish car the fire. The location was on northbound I-15 about two miles before the Cleghorn Road exit in the right shoulder. It was reported to be a gray Scion XB on fire.
CHP and firefighters were on the scene and had to temporarily shut down the slow lane while they worked on getting the vehicle extinguish.
Everybody did escape the vehicle before it became fully engulfed.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
It was reported flames were under the engine compartment, before the whole vehicle caught fire. The cause of the vehicle fire is unknown at this time.
