CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi tractor-trailer jackknifed cause the trailer to overturned Monday on southbound Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass during the late morning/afternoon commute.
It happened just after 10am on January 5, 2026, in the southbound lanes, of southbound I-15 about less than a mile before the truck escape ramp or about two miles before the Highway 138 exit.
California Highway Patrol say a crash between a dark gray Honda Accord and semi tractor-trailer caused the semi to jackknife and overturn the trailer. On the CHP traffic log stated the driver of the Honda was cut off by a unknown vehicle, prior to hitting the semi.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries and the semi driver was able to get stuff out of the cab before catching fire. Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames quickly.
CHP issued a SIG-Alert at 10:20am with 3 right lanes blocked. At 1pm they reopen the #2 lane with the #3 and slow lane still blocked. Traffic was backup over 8 miles before the Bear Valley Road exit.
As of 2pm there is no estimated of time to reopen the two right lanes. We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
