CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A death investigation caused Highway 138 to temporally closed Tuesday afternoon, California Highway Patrol said.
The incident was reported around 12pm on April 14, 2026, when CHP officers were dispatched to Hwy 138 between the 15 Freeway and Summit Valley Road in Hesperia. Officers regarding the area of a turnout following reports of a light-blue vehicle with a person inside, possibly a male, threatening to kill himself.
Sadly, at about 12:50pm CHP said, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The highway was reopened in both directions at 2:32pm.
Preliminary investigative details indicate the person died by suicide, according to CHP.
