CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A Car fire lights up the night sky in the Cajon Pass on northbound Interstate 15 Saturday night.
The car fire was reported about 8:10pm May 30, 2026, with the California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire were on scene to put out the fire on a blue Kia Optima 4 door sedan just before the Oak Hill Road exit.
CHP and firefighters were on the scene and had to temporarily shut down the fast lane while they worked on getting the vehicle fire and nearby brush extinguish.
The driver and passenger did escape the vehicle before it became fully engulfed.
It was reported flames were under the engine compartment, before the whole vehicle caught fire. The driver said they pulled over on the right shoulder of the freeway and put the vehicle in park before catching on fire. Then they said the vehicle started popping and then vehicle started rolling down the freeway from the right shoulder on fire to the center divider.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
The cause of the vehicle fire is unknown at this time.
