CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A brush fire off Interstate 15 after the Kenwood Avenue offramp brought northbound traffic to a crawl on the freeway Friday afternoon.
The San Bernardino County Fire was alerted to the blaze at 1:53pm August 28, 2026, northbound I-15 Freeway about two miles after the Kenwood Ave. exit on the right shoulder.
The agency rang a second alarm on the brush fire called the Greenwood Fire and called for mutual aid to the scene with airtankers and helicopters overhead.
The fire has burned about 3-4 acres as of 2:30pm with potential for 15 to 20 acres.
At 3:30pm the fire has been mapped at 7 acres.
4pm the fire’s forward rate of spread has been stopped.
California Highway Patrol has closed two right lanes and will remain blocked for hours.
No structures were immediately threatened in San Bernardino National Forest.
Details about a cause were not immediately available. Looks likes the fire started next to the freeway.
