CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi tractor-trailer fire on southbound Interstate 15 temporarily stopped traffic and sparked a small brush fire Friday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol.
Fire crews from San Bernardino County Fire arrived around 12:37pm October 2, 2026, southbound I-15 at the Cleghorn Road exit, to find rear brakes on fire, then minutes late, the trailer engulfed in flames. The fire spread to nearby vegetation, prompting a response from CAL FIRE and Caltrans, one lane of traffic reopened after crews extinguished the fire.
The truck was hauling a full trailer of meat; the tractor was able to detached from the trailer.
Multiple agencies responded, including CAL FIRE and San Bernardino National Forest Fire units.
It looks like a problem with one of the rear trailer brakes that caused the fire.
No injuries were reported.
SIG Alert was issued at 1pm for two of the four lanes to be blocked for an excavator to offload what’s left in the trailer and to put the trailer on a tow-truck.
Expect heavy traffic delays through the afternoon into the evening with over two hours of traffic delays.
