PHELAN, CA, (Pain In The Pass) >> The powerful winter storm has prompted Caltrans to shut down Highway 138 in Phelan Friday night due to drivers becoming stuck in the snow.
California Highway Patrol received calls about 5pm of multiple vehicles stuck in ice on Highway 138 near Highway 2.
Caltrans has the closure from Beekley Road to Hess Road in both directions.
Caltrans and CHP said, You can access the closures area with chains on at this time until roads get worst.
Winter Weather Warning for the mountains with heavy snow showers tonight into Saturday.
Please get prepared now if you travel the Cajon Pass Interstate 15 make sure you have a full tank of gas if you become stranded on the freeway. Friday into Saturday will be the coldest part of the storm. Remember to SLOW DOWN in the rain or in the snow. Remember you can not see black ice on the roadway.
CHP and Caltrans will try to keep the Cajon Pass lanes free of snow and ice, but if the weather turns bad under 32° they will close the freeway down.
