SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> California drivers should brace for higher gasoline/diesel costs this summer. Starting July 1, 2025, the state’s gas/fuel taxes will increase, as part of an annual inflation adjustment.
Each year on July 1st, California can adjust its fuel tax rates based on inflation from the Department of Finance. This year’s bump means the gasoline excise tax will rise to 61.2 cents per gallon, up from 59.6 cents. Diesel fuel will also increase from 45.4 to 46.6 cents per gallon.
Due to the Senate Bill 1 (SB1 Gas Tax Bill) that passed years ago. The state doesn’t have to make a “Bill” to rase the gas tax. Before Californians had to vote on it every time, they wanted to raise the tax and you know the answer, it wouldn’t pass if it was high.
This year with the diesel fuel hike, in particular, this could lead to a ripple effect across industries that rely heavily on transportation, including truckers and farming/agriculture. This will be pushing up the cost of goods and services.
In the last decade, California’s gas tax has more than doubled, with one of the most significant jumps occurring in 2017 when the rate increased by 12 cents per gallon under the SB1 gas tax.
Plus, in 2026 the Carbon Tax (the tax that the government sets a price that emitters must pay for each ton of greenhouse gas emissions they emit.) The Carbon Tax will be 52 cents and keep increasing each year after 2026. This was set on 2022/2023. The US government said, this part of the goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 85-percent by 2045.
‘The Democrats’ goal is to ban and force everybody to dump petroleum-powered internal combustion engines by 2035 and gas-powered vehicles.
If history has taught us in California, keep voting for the same more taxes on top of taxes. Wake up California and vote this year and for the next governor.
As California continues to lead the nation with the highest average gas prices.
