CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Multiple witness said Tuesday night that “street racing” may have led to a crash in the Cajon Pass on northbound Interstate 15.
California Highway Patrol reported the crash happened about 11:30pm January 27, 2026, about a mile after the Highway 138 exit.
A trio of vehicle were allegedly racing up the Cajon Pass before the crash.
Also before the crash a heavy-duty tow truck was pulling a disabled semi to the right shoulder and started to hook-up the semi. One or two vehicles made contact with the back of the tow-truck.
The white Dodge Charger sedan, maybe a white Nissan Sentra, and another unknown vehicle were all speeding at high speeds.
It looks like the white Dodge Charger and the Nissan both lost control and slammed into each other and the back of the tow-truck with one vehicle came to a stop on the traffic lanes. The Charger came to rest in the center divider.
The freeway was closed around 11:40pm for the clean-up and removal of the crash vehicles out of lanes. Traffic lanes were reopened around 12:15am.
No major injuries were reported.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
