On June 5, 2024, at approximately 4:30pm, a semi-truck was driving south on I-15 through Mojave Desert when the rear semi-trailer axle caught fire.

The driver pulled to the right shoulder of I-15 and attempted to put the flames out with their fire extinguisher and wasn’t able to extinguish the flames.

CAL FIRE was quickly on scene and deployed water onto the axle area to stop any further damage.

The damage was contained to the rear axle and tires of the semi-tractor, the cab was saved. The semi tractor-trailer was hauling 80 thousand pounds of rock.

Traffic was impacted for about two hours as southbound I-15 was down to lane while firefighters were on scene.

There were no injuries reported.
