SAN BERNARDINO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A pedestrian was transported to a hospital with broken bones and major head trauma after he was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 15 Freeway. Thursday night April 30, 2020, just after Glen Helen Parkway in San Bernardino.

Prior to the incident Caltrans was setting up a cone pattern for the left 2 lanes.

California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the incident of a vehicle versus a pedestrian that was reported at 8:12 pm.

According from the CHP traffic log the pedestrian for unknown reasons came from the center divider, then walked across the construction zone that was coned off on southbound 15 side. Seconds later the pedestrian was hit in the #3 lane by a unknown vehicle that didn’t stop.

The description of the pedestrian was a white male. He was lying on the #2 lane with major head trauma and a compound fracture to his left leg.

A SIG Alert was issued at 8:27 pm by the CHP with a traffic backup about three to four miles long.

The CHP traffic log stated there was no vehicle in the area that could have been from the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was transported by AMR to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with unknown head injuries and broken leg.

The accident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland San Bernardino office. Anyone witness or have information regarding the incident is asked to call CHP at (909) 806-2400.

CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available.

**UPDATE: The vehicle that hit the pedestrian was a CHP patrol car that was responded to the scene. A 24-year-old La Puente male, whose name has not been publicly announced. The CHP said it doesn’t know why the man was walking on the freeway.
