YERMO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A crash involving two semi trucks closed northbound Interstate 15 Wednesday morning in Yermo.

California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire received calls of two big rig semis that lost control. One semi overturned spilled its load on the shoulder of the Interstate. The second semi went off the Interstate into a ditch with the trailer still attached.

The accident was reported at 6:13am Wednesday morning September 23, 2020. The crash happened on northbound Interstate 15 about a mile after Yermo Road.

The overturned big rig was facing south in the right shoulder and the slow lane of northbound 15. The trailer was loaded with paper towels that half spilled out on the ground. It is unknown why the big rig ended up this way.

One big rig that ended in the ditch went about 500 feet off of the Interstate and took out about 400 feet of fence line. It was unknown what was inside this trailer.

CHP had to temporary shut down the northbound lane before 7am, due to a medvac helicopter landing on the Interstate.

The driver of the semi that rolledover was transported by helicopter to a local hospital in unknown condition.

The other driver of the semi that crashed in the ditch had no injuries.

CHP and Caltrans had to block the slow lane for the recovery and cleanup.

Traffic was backed up before Calico Road at one point of the afternoon.

As of 4pm they still have the slow lane blocked for the clean up.

This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Barstow Office.

CHP said additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
