HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A man was spotted on Interstate15, riding on the back of an RV travel trailer, then on a semi-trailer before they arrested him Monday afternoon. (Photo above is credit by Yvette Estrada)
The incident happened at about 1:08pm on Monday, February 19, 2024, on southbound Interstate 15 near the Ranchero Road exit according to reports from the California Highway Patrol Traffic Log.
CHP officers said a black male adult wearing a bright orange jacket and black pants hitched a ride and was dancing on top of a travel trailer and the back of a semi-truck.
In this footage filmed by a member of Pain In The Pass Facebook Group, Yvette Estrada, the man appears to be under the influence of something as traffic was slowed by weather ahead. At one point the man can be seen shouting something to a car behind him.
I definitely didn’t know how to react when I saw this happening in real time,” Yvette said. “Do you think the driver knows”. I attempted to call CHP and was told someone already reported it.
The man finally jumped from the semi on to the freeway, this is when deputies from the Hesperia Police Department managed to detain him. The man was taken into custody for at least joyriding/hitch-hiker complaints. It’s still unknown as to why he did it and may be committed for a mental health evaluation.
We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Victorville Office.
