APPLE VALLEY, CA, (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi-trailer burst into flames Monday afternoon along Interstate 15 in Apple Valley. (Photo above is credit by Alfonso Gonzalez)

The fire happened in the northbound lanes of I-15 near the Stoddard Wells Road Exit, just before 4pm. Apple Valley Fire Department and California Highway Patrol had to shut down all northbound lanes to fight the fire.

The driver was able to detach the tractor from the trailer to save the tractor cab from catching fire. The semi was carrying an unknown product not listed on the traffic log. The trailer was almost fully engulfed in flames.

It looks like a problem with one of the trailers tires, or the rear trailer brakes that caused the problem.

Caltrans and CHP said, the slow lanes will be closed for hours as they off-load the freight.

No injuries were reported.
