HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Northbound and southbound Interstate 15 was closed between Main Street and Bear Valley Road due to a large set of fiber optic cable downed across all lanes of the freeway and side roads Wednesday morning. (Photo above is credit by Heaven Thornton)

The closure was first reported about 10:26am on November 13, 2024, after a wheeled excavator in the construction zone brought the cable down. At 10:54am, they confirmed that cable was not Edison lines and said it was Spectrum fiber optic cable.

Both directions to the freeway were shut down for approximately one hour while crews assessed the large cable. Amargosa Road and Mariposa Road were also closed as a result of the cable across both side roads.

At 11:30am all lanes were reopened and traffic was backup for miles.

A white Chevrolet Silverado pickup work truck pulling a trailer was traveling southbound on Mariposa Rd. hit the low-hanging cable cause major front-end damage to the truck. No injuries were reported in this incident.

Spectrum crews responded to the scene to start work on the damaged cable. It was reported some Spectrum customers experiencing a service outage.
