PHELAN, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Small brush fire on Highway 138 started by pickup truck late Saturday afternoon.
Fire crews with the San Bernardino County Fire, CAL FIRE, and the US Forest Department responded to the blaze, named the Valle Fire, around 4:50pm on October 18, 2025.
Officials said the fire began as a sliver Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on fire on the westbound lanes of Hwy 138 about a mile from Hwy 2.
The fire quickly engulfed about ¼ acre, racing uphill on the right side of the mountain.
At 5:10pm firefighters quickly halted the forward progress of the flames, according to radio traffic.
It’s not yet clear what started the car fire.
