Traffic was taking about 30 minutes to get by the scene. The stretch was on northbound I-15 near the Highway 395/ Joshua Street exit. The incident happen around 11:46am on December 6, 2023, when a crash attenuator barrier was hit and partially in the #3 lane.

What is a (Temporary Safety Sand Barrier) also known as a crash cushion, or a crash attenuator, is a device intended to reduce the damage to structures, vehicles, and motorists resulting from a motor vehicle collision. Impact attenuators are designed to absorb the colliding vehicle’s kinetic energy. They may also be designed to redirect the vehicle away from the hazard or away from roadway machinery and workers.

Once Caltrans arrived at the scene, the California Highway Patrol implemented a traffic break at Oak Hill Road and stop traffic just after Ranchero Road to remove and replace the damaged safety barrels out of lanes.

Although the traffic break was lifted around 3pm. CHP said one lane will remained closed with no estimated time for reopening the lane closure.

At this time there no information on who hit the safety traffic barriers.
