The collision occurred at around 12:44am on Tuesday April 2, 2024 on northbound Interstate 15 just after the Kenwood Avenue exit blocking the #5 lane and the slow lane. CHP, Caltrans and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department were called to the crash scene.

CHP says from where the semi -truck fuel tanker hit the guardrail on the right shoulder, left the freeway to where it came to a stop in the ravine on its side, was roughly a 75 -100 foot drop.

The other vehicle a Nissan Altima sedan was involved in the crash had major front-end and left side damage and was not injured in the collision.

The semi driver was transported with reports of moderate injuries to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Caltrans was called to the scene for a hazmat spill of about 1,000 gallons of fuel out of the tank. Luckily the spill was captured in a catch basin not in storm drain, Caltrans said. Crews will continue cleanup efforts tomorrow morning at 8am-8pm if need be, this will be impacting the slow lane. Cleanup will be expedited prior to the upcoming storm.

We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
