San Bernardino County Fire Department ground units responded to the blaze on northbound I-15 between the Oak Hill Road exit and the Ranchero Rd exit next to Mariposa Road around 3:30pm, fire officials said. The blaze had burned at least ¼ acre of light to moderate brush and was 75% contained by 3:45pm.

The “Freeway Fire” was burning at a moderate rate with light winds, according to SBFD. Officials said the fire, which was burning between the freeway on the side road was moving away from structures.

Although firefighters stopped forward progress of the blaze in 30 minutes after it ignited, they will be out there till about 5pm for mopping up and dousing hot spots that could pop-up.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but fire officials said preliminary indications showed that there were no homeless encampments near the fire’s point of origin. It looks to be human-caused fire.
