HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi driver is injured Sunday morning apparently losing control and hitting a bridge pillar holding up Joshua Street in Hesperia.

The crash was reported just after 4am on Sunday, October 6, 2024, on northbound Interstate 15 at the Joshua Street overpass bridge. It’s reported the semi tractor-trailer veered off the right shoulder of the freeway, struck an overpass pillar.

The crash left the truck driver trapped inside the cab of the semi-truck as the trailer became detached spilling the trailer content across all over the traffic lanes.

The truck driver was able to get out of the wreckage and was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with unknown injuries.

The incident resulted in multiple lane closures and a major traffic backup were reported Sunday morning.

Caltrans said a maintenance crew took a look at the bridge and determined a bridge inspection team was not needed. The roadway reopened after a brief closure.

Caltrans said, any time there is a hit to the freeway infrastructure, crews will come out to make sure there’s no damage, to make sure there’s nothing that hurts the integrity of the structure that may cause a collapse.

Only the fast lane is open. The two right lanes are still blocked as they remove the semi tractor-trailer out of lanes and repair the guardrail as of 9am.

At 5pm all northbound lanes were reopened.

At this time, they don’t know how or why the semi driver lost control of the tractor-trailer. They also said the driver may have fallen asleep while driving, or a mechanical failure could cause the crash.

We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Victorville Office.
