CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting motorists to potential delays on southbound Interstate 15 at the top of the Cajon Pass Tuesday night and Wednesday night due to ongoing roadwork on the new weigh station.
Caltrans District 8 said, the project is 80% completed and phase 3 is now underway! Crews will begin installing weight in motion sensors.
What is Weight-in-Motion (WIM) systems are installed to accurately measure the weight of vehicles while they are in motion, without requiring them to stop. These systems are crucial for various applications, including traffic monitoring, pavement design, and enforcement of weight restrictions. Installation involves embedding sensors into the pavement and connecting them to data processing and storage systems.

The lane closures are scheduled on Tuesday night, July 1, and Wednesday night, July 2, between 7pm and 5am** each night.
From Ranchero Road southbound I-15, ONLY lane #1(Fast Lane) will remain open. Two right lanes will be closed due to weight sensor installation.
Southbound I-15 Ranchero Road onramps will be closed.
Southbound I-15 Oak Hill Road offramp and onramp will be closed.
Drivers are encouraged to plan and use an alternate route in advance to avoid potential major traffic delays as the project progresses.
