COLTON, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Overnight Closure of I-215 Scheduled for BNSF Railroad Bridge Painting over the Interstate 215 Freeway this Saturday night into Sunday morning in Colton.
Motorists are advised of an overnight closure of Interstate 215 (I-215) between Interstate 10 (I-10) and State Route 60 (SR-60). This includes full closure of northbound and southbound I-215 within the work zone, including affected ramps and freeway-to-freeway connectors.
This closure is planned to allow crews to safely paint the BNSF Railway bridge spanning the freeway. Regular maintenance of the railroad allows BNSF to keep its network infrastructure in optimal condition.
The overnight closure has been scheduled during off-peak hours to minimize impacts to motorists while providing a safe environment for crews performing maintenance work on critical rail infrastructure.
The closure is Saturday, September 12, 2026, through Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 9pm. to 7am*.
Motorists will be directed to signed detour routes utilizing local streets and alternate freeway connections. Expect major delay in the detours area:
• Northbound I-215 on-ramp closures at E. La Cadena Drive and S. Iowa Avenue
• Southbound I-215 on-ramp closures at S. Mount Vernon Avenue and Barton Road
• Detours for affected freeway-to-freeway connectors at I-10 and SR-60
Ground-mounted detour signs and portable message boards will guide motorists around the closure area. Portable Changeable Message Signs (PCMS), Caltrans Changeable Message Signs, and other traffic control devices will be deployed in advance of the closure to notify motorists of traffic restrictions and alternate routes.
